Purchase the Desert Sky pattern by Quiltworx through the QOG vendor store ASAP so that it is here in time for class. It is item #JNQ69P, retail cost $23.50 , but the cost through the club's vendor store should be approximately $14.10. The Pattern contains all of the papers and information to complete a 48" x 54" lap quilt. ( Additional papers are also available if you like to expand the quilt to make a larger quilt.)
Fabric Requirements: It takes 24 fat quarters, ( do not purchase 1/4 yards..these should be 18" x 21" fat quarters!) to make the lap size quilt. 12 should be light and medium colors and the remaining group should be medium and dark colors. Batik fabrics work well but are not required. All should be pressed and laid flat before arriving at class.
12" Add a Quarter Ruler. I have 2 or 3 of these that can be borrowed. You will be using then frequently and you should bring one if you have one. They are also available from the Vendor Store.. the 12" ruler is most common. (At Checkers, the item # is CM12 and it retails for $12.49, approx $7.49 cost to you from the Vendor Store)
"Purple thang" or a sewing stiletto is used like a 3rd hand when piecing curves.
Washable Glue Stick - UHU of Elmer's washable glue sticks work well.
Washable Fabric Glue Pen -F ons & Porter and Sewline are two good manufacturers.
One gallon Ziploc bags - total of 4
Large Paper Clips, 2" or binding clips - you will need several of these
Sewing Machine Needle -- Size 70/10 sewing machine needle is ideal but an 80/12 will work. It should be a sharp needle (Universal, Microtex, or Topstitch ) type needle , NOT a ballpoint needle,
General Sewing Supplies - You will appreciate having a rotary cutter with a NEW sharp blade because you are cutting through several layers of fabric, so you may want to being your own cutter rather than using club cutter. Otherwise plan on bring a fine thread in a neutral color, straight pins, machine in good working order, etc. Bring a foot for your machine that does NOT have side rail type guide on it for paper piecing. A 1/4" foot is helpful when you are piecing the later in the class.
