Quilters on Grand upcoming events

Beginning Quilting (Mon, September 21, 2026)

Classes will be held on Sept 21,28,& Oct. t,12. lnstructor: Chris Bauknecht

We will be making a table runner, so when either buying your fabric or looking through you stash, think something to coordinate with you decor or a fall theme. You will want to choose one fabric with a large print, one with a medium print and one with a small print. One fabric should read as a solid.

Supplies:

3 - 1/2 yard pieces, 3 - 1/4 yard pieces of fabric that all coordinate.

Neutral thread, gray or beige Aurafil or Guterman

Rotary cutter & 6 1/2" square ruler

Pencil & 6" ruler

Sewing machine, cleaned & oiled, 1/4" foot, a new needle, size 80 universal

I will supply club mats, long rulers, and all directions.

4th week for quilt you will need, about 40 - 1" curved quilting pins or quilt basting spray

Kwik clip or grapefruit spoon if pinning your quilt

24" x 52" batting of your choice

24" x 52" backing

10" fabric for binding

Thread to compliment your quilt.

Pattern: The Spellbound Hat (A quilted witch hat sewing pattern). Can be order from Checker Dist.

Supplies: When you get the pattern, decide which of 3 ways you want to make the hat. This will determine what fabric supplies you will need.

Sewing machine in good working order along with normal sewing/quilting supplies.

Quodlibet pattern available as a printable .pdf download. (Cost is $8.00.) To download the pattern, go to www.quiltwithjudy.com and select the Pattern Shop tab. In the next screen, search “Quilts” for the Quodlibet, Pattern QWJ – 22. (The patterns are listed alphabetically.) Select the pattern and pay with a credit card to be able to download the pattern and print it. (You should also be able to save it on your computer so that you can access and print it when you need it again in the future!)

Fabric requirements are listed on the pattern and can be viewed on the pattern website. The designer suggests using batiks which work very well for this pattern, but mottled textured pieces or even solids could work if you prefer that type of look. The fabrics are a selection of Quarter yard cuts or fat quarters, (half of which should be from lighter colors and the other half from darker colors). The lap quilt requires 14 or more lights and 14 or more darks; the wall hanging suggests 8 or more lights and 8 or more darks; the table runner only requires six fat eighths of lights and six fat eighths of dark pieces. You will also need a lattice fabric that contrasts well with all of the fabrics in your pallet. I would suggest a solid dark fabric, such as a black, navy, dark gray, brown, etc., as well as a fabric for binding (I chose the same fabric for lattice and binding in my finished wall hanging). See pattern for yardage. Please prepare your fabric by washing (if you like to pre-wash) and ironing your pieces before class so that they are ready for cutting.

Thread should be a neutral that will blend with your selected fabric pallet.

Sewing Machine in good working order and standard sewing supplies, such as sewing machine needles, pins, seam ripper, etc.

Beginning Free Motion Quilting (Mon, October 19, 2026)

SUPPLIES FOR CLASS: Cleaned & oiled sewing machine on which you can drop the feed dogs. Some machines have a cover plate that goes over the feed dogs.

Darning Foot for your machine. There are several variations: open toe, clear plastic, closed toe. I use the open toe because it gives me the best view of my stitches and work area. If your machine came with a darning (quilting) foot, bring that one.

1 yard muslin - 45 inches side, we will be making a quilt sandwich for machine quilting, so you can cut your fabric anything close to this dimension.

1 piece of batting cut to 36" x 22" cotton or cotton blend.

About 20 size 0 or 1 quilter's safety pins. I like the curved ones best.

I spool dark thread, 50 weight, three play, cotton or polyester. Please wind 2 bobbins so you are ready to go.

Size 80 machine quilting needle, microtex/sharp, universal are second best.

Paper for taking notes and drawing.

Pencil for drawing on muslin.

Straight stitch throat plate if you have one.

In class you will learn how to choose the proper thread and needle, how to setup your machine and work area. We will learn different free motion techniques, and practice them.

Supply List: Pattern will be provided. Lots of strings (long narrow strips of fabric, 1" to 3" wide)

Other Supplies Needed: 12 1/2" square ruler (strongly recommended). Sewing machine in good working order and usual sewing supplies.

This is a quick, easy string quilt perfect for all skill levels. You choose the size.

Room Cleanup (Fri, October 30, 2026)

We’d like to restore the practice of cleaning our room on months that have a fifth Friday. As you know, maintenance only takes out the trash and sweeps the floor. Any deeper cleaning is on us. The next cleaning is scheduled for Friday, October 30 after lunch. We will clean the refrigerator, wipe down cupboards, tables, chairs, etc., and any other nook or cranny where dirt and dust accumulates. We can’t potluck, but I can promise chocolate of some kind. Brownies? Ice cream sandwiches? Let us know in the comments. Many hands make light work! We will have a signup sheet in the room. Take pride in our room, our artistry, and our awesomeness!
